Why Are Wooden Toys Classics?

Why are wooden toys classics?

It is easy to be tempted in the store to look at and buy the latest and greatest, flashiest new toy on display. But, we have all found that the classic wooden toys are the ones that stand up to the test of time both in terms of durability, stimulating and holding children's interest, generation after generation.

I let out a chuckle when I saw the classic wooden duck on a string among my daughter's first birthday presents. I thought, "Wow I had one of those when I was a kid". And now, just as I did, my daughter pulls on the string and the duck follows her everywhere as she toddles around the house. The latest whirling, flashing thing is great for a few moments, but this duck is her friend.

It's a similar story with trains. All of my son's friends have wooden train sets. They have been played with for years and years. When they visit each other to play with all their newfangled stuff and then begin to look bored on a rainy day, its always a sure thing to ask "who wants to play trains?" Wooden train sets are never boring to either gender and for all ages.

It is easy to imagine that wooden toys are expensive because they are so durable and great for kids. But, it is fairly easy, if you look, to find a simple wooden puzzle or set of blocks at your toy store. As these toys last for a long time, you will also find them at a local garage sale for a fraction of the price - well-loved, but still in great condition. You also don't have to buy the brand-name sets (e.g. Biro wooden trains) you can find similar items at your nearest discount store (check out Ikea).

The reason that wooden toys, including: puzzles, pull-toys, trains, dollhouses, blocks and logs for building have become classics is that they stimulate children's imagination while standing up to the knocks of childhood play.

Preserve Jigsaw Puzzles

Most jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts like to preserve jigsaws, especially if they involve 1000 pieces or more, as it is a tribute to their patience and labor. Preserving a jigsaw by mounting, laminating, and framing would enable others to appreciate one's hobby while serving as a nice decorative piece on the wall.

After patiently putting the jigsaw puzzle together, one should gingerly place a thin piece of plastic between the underside of the jigsaw puzzle and the surface that one is working on. This is to prevent the counter or table from getting residual glue, which often seeps through, on it.

One should then evenly apply glue to the upper (picture) surface of the jigsaw. One could use soft wood sticks to compress the puzzle while gluing and wait for an hour or two for it to dry. One could then apply a second coat of glue. Multiple light coats, as opposed to a thick coating, prevent pieces of the picture from bloating or swelling up. One could use a sponge for application or use the applicator provided.

Some thicker glue would do for bigger piece puzzles whereas, a more liquid glue would be better for tight fitting puzzles. A shinier finish could be used for irregular shapes that cannot be laminated or for pictures too big to be framed.

Once the jigsaw is thoroughly dried it can be turned over. It can then be glued on the back to mount on a plywood board cut to size. One could laminate if desired or spray the top surface with an acrylic spray to safeguard from dust and other contaminants. One could also mount it on to a sheet of Styrofoam with rubber cement and then fit into a wooden frame.

One's jigsaw is now ready to be displayed or to be given as a gift to a loved one.

Are Kids Toys Important?

If you asked any child if his or her toys are important, the answer would be a resounding YES. We certainly thought so too when we were young enough to play with toys. When it's our turn to buy them for the little ones, some of us begin to question the relevance of toys in a child's life.

We all have a favorite toy whose memories can still elicit a chuckle or two. Mine was a plastic food set with plates and cups and saucers. I used to play with my cousins, and we certainly had fun imagining those toy plates brimming with the sweets we craved back then.

Experts say that playing with toys is essential to a child's development starting from the infant stage. Kids' toys like rattles, mobiles, toy teethers, and key rings help babies connect sound, sight, taste, touch, and smell to objects. Rattles do help them learn about cause and effect not to mention introduce colors and shapes.

Color and shape recognition, spatial relationship awareness, hand-eye coordination, and other motor skills are exercised through playing with educational toys that were made specifically to enhance those skills. There are also kids' toys that enhance the kids' imagination and creativity. Some toys even teach them patience (think floor puzzles) and reinforce the concept of hygiene (think bath and tub toys).

Toy stamps and colorful beads may not seem like great toys, but they do enhance a little girl's creativity and imagination and introduces her to the arts and crafts. For young boys, getting their own set of wheels can become such a bone of contention. Getting their own bikes or toy cars is part of their pretend play to be like their dads.

Stuffed animals look cute and cuddly and can easily be dismissed as frivolous objects. These toys in fact are so much more than aesthetically pleasing objects. Not only do they introduce the tots to animals, these toys also give them an exercise to explore textures. Some stuffed toys do make animal sounds when a certain appendage is pressed or held by the child. This is a good start for a child to learn about sounds and cause and effect.

Toys are really important in different stages of a child's development. It is up to the grown-ups to figure out which toys are appropriate for the child's age as well as to ascertain that the toys are safe for use.

There are still many skills that a child can learn through playing with his educational toys, but one thing is for certain - the key player in his growth is still human interaction.

According to Marilyn Segal, Ph.D., dean emeritus and director of the professional development program at Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Studies at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the most important toy is the parent and other caregivers because babies crave one-on-one social interaction and need the security it provides.

The toy is important for very young children but they need social interaction more. When they get bigger, they need the toys to stimulate their imagination, but parents will always be more important as playmates.

Children and Valuable Life Skills Revealed by Doing Jigsaw Puzzles

Jigsaw puzzles have been a long-time favorite learning toy. Parents often appreciate the value of puzzles and their importance in enhancing a child's basic educational skills. By putting together a puzzle, a child's hand-to-eye coordination skills are sharpened as each piece is worked to "magically" fit into its proper space with its distinctive shape or form. Puzzles encourage cognitive development like memory, problem solving and decision-making skills. When shared with others, puzzles promote social interaction thereby helping develop a child's social skills. The educational value of a puzzle doesn't stop with basic educational skills, puzzles also teach life skills such as patience, persistence and self-worth, for example. The attitude with which a child completes a puzzle will be a small indication and reflection as to how they can and will relate to life as they mature.

PATIENCE: Puzzles teach patience. As defined in the Encarta Dictionary, "patience is the capacity for waiting without becoming annoyed or upset and to persevere calmly when faced with difficulties". The concept of waiting is difficult for a child. Using a puzzle as an example, we can show our children the importance of patience as each piece is maneuvered into place, sometimes with ease and sometimes by trial and error. As his patience is exercised, he will begin to realize that with patience each piece will eventually fit and he will achieve the desired result thereby realizing his reward in the end. Life (and puzzles) does not provide the instant satisfaction of "I want it now, I have to have it now" as understood in a child's world. The reward is the end result of delayed gratification. As adults we become aware of the benefits of working toward a goal. We learn that ethic and achieve that goal with time, hard work and persistence. As a result we achieve the satisfaction of accomplishment which becomes a reward within itself. Teach your child to compare the puzzle to life - how many times do things not make sense when we don't have all the facts (pieces)? We learn through patience that each piece contributes to the entire picture offering its own contribution or variable aspect to the whole. Puzzles help provide children with a better understanding that unless you have all the facts (puzzle pieces) organized, sorted out and put together you will not be able to see the puzzle to its completion to see the entire picture.

PERSISTENCE: Another life skill children learn from puzzles is persistence. This means to continue steadily or stubbornly despite problems, difficulties or obstacles. It is difficult for children to make progress when faced with obstacles. Sometimes these obstacles can hinder a child's self-esteem and the value they have to give to life itself. By the example of a puzzle and adult encouragement, children learn that obstacles do not have to have a negative influence on a task or life itself. With persistence children learn to accomplish goals and bring projects to fruition to reap their reward and eventually see the complete picture. With a puzzle, you can teach your child to take the time to think about color, shape and how the shape relates to a space and how each piece can be placed in its proper position through trial and error. Using logical thinking and problem solving skills, ask your child in what ways the puzzle pieces relate to the entire picture. Ask questions like, "Where do you think this piece should go?" Or encourage your child's persistence by saying; "I like how you keep trying." Let your child know that with persistence most anything in life is within reach. With the proper perspective children will be able to ultimately solve their problems (or complete their puzzle).

VALUE/WORTH: Puzzles help make children realize that the meaning of the picture is unclear with one piece of the puzzle, just as one person in life gains more value as he/she interacts with other people. One person alone (one isolated puzzle piece) has significance relative to his/herself (e.g. self-concept), but a connection or relationship with one or more other pieces an entire picture is created; and in life a sense of self worth is enhanced. We are unique in our own individual way. By ourselves we can have significant impact but through collaborated efforts life can take on a fuller meaning. What do you do with one piece of the puzzle? What value or worth does it have? Help your child understand some things don't make sense on their own but in combination with other pieces a new concept can be realized.

Puzzles help teach children to stretch their imagination. With persistence and perseverance their joy and reward will be inevitable, not only in the completion of their puzzle, but in life. Puzzles are an extremely valuable educational toy when worked independently, but can take on a whole new meaning when guided by a "teacher" who teaches how each piece relates to another puzzle piece, by its size, shape and color. Just as a single puzzle piece, children can learn how their individual contribution to life brings its own reward, just as each piece in the puzzle creates the entire picture.

Research shows that an intelligent quotient or IQ of a child accelerates more than 50 points for the first few years with the appropriate development and training of basic fundamental skills. Every child has their own unique capabilities, but it will never hurt to develop it further, increasing the chances of mastering the skill or discovering new ones. Sorting toys are fabulous toys in helping children of all ages through their learning and fine motor skills. Toys can be affordable and reliable, it won't really matter if it's expensive or not. What matters is the learning experience your child gets to experience. Try to find things and pieces found in your home. Although this is the case, still remember that he or she is still a child who needs your much support and guidance.

Children will grab every thing or toy that their eyes can see. Soon, you'll discover your child playing by herself with household tools. Be careful and keep your homes childproof. They will be fond of exploring every nook and cranny they get their little fingers on. It's also important to keep your child enjoying activities that are unstructured so that they'll be able to experience independence.

Educational toys enrich a child's mental, social, emotional and physical development as they grow. It encourages mental growth and active thinking. For preschoolers, basic block made of wood, plastic or soft stuff toys are great for introducing them relations of shapes, cause and effect, to facilitate coordination of the hands and eyes, and will foster patience within your child. For children entering school, engage them with educational toys that manipulate parts and lets them think. You can try Lego or puzzles, or movable toys. Discover The Truth About Learning Educational Toys

One would have to assume that developmental or educational toys are based on cognitive development. There is more than one theory of cognitive development, however, Piagets theory seems to be the most accepted. Using this theory, let us take a look at toys that are best suited through the stages of development. Continue reading and discover the truth about learning educational toys.

Even Piaget admitted that each child develops differently and that the theory was flawed based on how smoothly some of the transitions were. Some of the challenges to the theory have been based on the beliefs that a child's economical, family, and social influences all effect cognitive development. Keep all of this in mind when deciding on toys that will best help the development of a particular child.

According to the theory there are four distinct stages of development. The first is the sensorimotor stage; lasting from birth to approximately two years of age. During this stage, the child will learn coordination between hands and eyes, learn the result from a repeated occurrence, plan an activity on their own, try new things, and creativity and insight begin to develop. By the end of this stage the most important goal is for the child to have learned object permanence.

Toys that can be grabbed in the hands and pulled, will be the favorites in the beginning of this stage, while later in the stage puzzles made of large shapes and memory games will develop abilities. DVDs are available for even these young ones to assist with developing language skills.

The preoperational stage begins after two and ends at approximately seven. In this stage curiosity and reasoning are developing. At this time the child begins to act out fantasy stories of play and develop magical worlds. They still are unable to associate another persons point of view with their own.

The type of toys for this stage could be puppets, dolls, any type of toy that the child can create an adventure with. You may even want to make a trunk of dress up clothes and allow them to act out plays to develop their self esteem. There are a variety of good computer games as well as other games to encourage healthy role play.

The third stage is the concrete operational stage, and last between the ages of seven and eleven. Many important changes take place in this stage of development such as, sorting objects, relationship recognition, classification of sets of objects, problem solving that involves multiple issues, the ability to comprehend that things can be changed and then put back in the same way, and conservation.

Any type of games that promote logic skills at this stage would be excellent toys. Many of the computer games available are specifically designed for this. Word and math puzzles are also great to keep in the car for trips and when you have to wait in waiting rooms.

The formal operational stage is from eleven until adulthood. Abstract thinking begins at this point. They are able to draw their own conclusions from different occurrences and apply information as they have learned it. They can now make a plan to solve a problem, and they are capable of experiencing and understanding love.

There is no shame in the old fashioned board game that encourages family activity. Children that are encouraged to participate in family activities will develop a greater sense of self esteem. Any type of toy that deters a child from isolation is the best kind for this age group. Sports equipment with family involvement, or learning to play chess is an excellent idea.

Children's Floor Puzzles - Great For Kids Hand-Eye Coordination

Hand-eye coordination begins during infancy through providing infants with objects and colorful toys that will encourage them to reach out and grasp them. By the age of 4-5 months infants can bring their hands into their field of vision, and during toddlerhood further progress in hand-eye coordination comes with the ability to see and grasp objects accurately. They develop the "pincer grasp" during this time.

By three to four years of age children learn to handle eating utensils and button small buttons. By five years of age the child's hand-eye coordination is beginning to advance as he approaches, grasps and releases objects with precision and accuracy.

By six years of age the child's visual orientation changes as they shift their gaze more frequently and follow the progress of objects rather than staring at the object. By the time they reach school age through middle childhood they make great advances in speed, timing and coordination of hand-eye coordination.

Between the ages of three and six it is important to provide as many opportunities for children to develop their hand-eye coordination. But, what to do when it rains, snows or gets dark too early? Because visual feedback is vital for fast and accurate hand movements it is important to allow children to continue to develop their hand-eye coordination.

One great solution is a giant floor puzzle. These puzzles are very colorful, made of large enough pieces to not harm the child if they put them in their mouth, and provide an opportunity to develop hand-eye coordination while learning shapes and patterns.

Over the years I have cared for many children, and I have observed their behavior with floor puzzles. I take the diagram of the completed puzzle and seal it in plastic so they can refer to it without destroying it. Children will spend a lot of time learning the puzzle, and once they do they always want an adult to watch them and spend time with them putting the puzzle together. When they are older they will only put it together 2 or 3 times before losing interest, but they always go back to it when bored indoors.

Safe and educational, giant floor puzzles make a great indoor activity for when the weather keeps them indoors.

The Top Three Kids Puzzles For Your Toddlers

Puzzles are among the most ancient games our old civilization has. A puzzle in its simplest description is a problem wherein pieces are to be arranged in a logical order to form a desired shape or solution. The satisfaction on gets from playing puzzles springs from the concept that the brain fills in whatever it finds missing! In addition to that, children's interest in these objects are mainly for the fulfillment they acquire once they found out the hidden picture after putting in the last piece of the puzzle.

Aside from all the enjoyment kids puzzles offer, they also constantly challenge the mind of the child in terms of language, mathematical, and on the logical areas. There are several kinds of puzzles available in the market, and they target a specific age group, hence they come in packages with varying degree of difficulties.

There are number of things to consider when providing your kids with puzzles. Contrary to popular beliefs, giving your kids these toys does not only end there. Scrutiny and understanding must be invested to supply your kids with what is optimum. There are three kinds of puzzles that top the lists of most consumers. The following will help you decide as to the specific kids puzzles you are to provide to your child.

1. Connect-the-dots puzzles. The advantage of connect-the-dots puzzles is that it can be introduce to kids even if they are a year old or younger. It does not need complex logical analysis since a part of the picture is already provided and all the kid needs to do is to continue it. It is helpful in developing the child's motor skills along with their eye-hand coordination. It is highly recommended to toddlers who need a little help with alphabet and number sequence learning. It is also a very good supplement to number or alphabet flashcards, to help them better memorize with the aid of completing pictures logically.

2. Jigsaw puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles are among the most popular puzzles suitable for everyone at almost all ages, because there is a wide selection of them. These puzzles require multiple brain functions. What is more important is that they sharpen up the child's memory. One very useful utility of jigsaw puzzles is that, it teaches difficult lessons in a more subtle way to children. Example, teaching geography and forcing children to memorize all countries with their capitals would be a big work to do. Introducing children to jigsaw puzzles using geographic maps and atlases will surely make them familiarized with these things in a fun way!

3. Language puzzles. Of the three puzzles introduced in this article, the language puzzle is the most specific and limited. Language puzzles like crosswords and cryptograms are to be introduced to the proper age groups and in accordance with the children's intellectual capacity, otherwise they will prove to be too difficult and no fun at all. It is highly suggested to children who are already well exposed to the alphabet and are starting up on word building. Language puzzles will definitely fill in the gap between learning the alphabet and moving up to exercising their spelling skills.

Toddler Educational Toys Learning can be fun

Toddler educational toys can have many definitions. To put it simply, it may mean that the development of teaching skills. The Best Toys for Children This Christmas

Shopping for our children can be time consuming especially on Christmas season. You may not be able to discern at first, which are the ones that they need and the ones that they can do without. In buying presents for them, think of the benefits a toy can bring. Does it promote stimulation to the mind or is it something that may not call attention after the novelty wears off? It is important that your kids will make use of the toys not just for a short time but also for continuous enjoyment and possible learning. There are many selections where we can choose for our children's toys.

Building blocks are good because they are teaching our child's attitude and patience in trying to create something that they want. It may take them sometime to build one but it is rewarding once they have made the first project on their own. It is also engaging as they can make different figures, one after another. There are many variations they can make out from the building blocks.

Art materials promote creativity to the mind. They can draw, paint, and extend their imagination on things that interests and inspires them. Get your children something that can enhance their talent. Not only they will be happy to receive, but it will also be a continuing hobby for them. It will become most especial if they can make an interesting decoration for Christmas using the art materials that you give them. Encourage them more in making a very good one as they may receive Santa phone calls that are especially for kids who have been good at school and in making nice Christmas decoration in preparation for his coming.

Board games are also ideal gifts for children. They encourage thinking, at the same time socialization with other kids, as they usually require participation of others. Puzzle of any kind is an interesting game for your child as well. It encourages thinking on how to solve a problem. It fuels their mind into analyzing more and more as they progress to through stages of the puzzles.

Bicycle and other toys that promote physical activity is also a good combination to the above mentioned toys. In giving gifts, we should think of both mental and physical aspect of our child's development. It is a balance that should be maintained at all times. Having toys that encourage physical activity keeps the body alive and healthy. Toys that encourage sharing with others is an ideal way of building up his thought on sharing and friendship as well.

One thing you must not forget in buying gifts is the safety for children. Make sure you get stuff that is appropriate for their age and gender. You should not get anything that may pose hazard; no matter how little is the chance. It is always best to consult the packaging or the store assistant about suitability of certain toys to your kids.

Christmas is an opportunity for children to receive gifts more than they can imagine. They are always looking for something to receive, no matter how small it is. It just makes them happy knowing that people care and loves them. But nothing can excite them more than hearing the voice of Santa on Christmas Eve. Santa Calls make up the perfect Christmas experience for your children. Along with a toy, is voice of Santa that can make the memory last forever, from their younger age through the years.

Promotional Anti Stress Toys - Relax at Work

There is no getting around it. The office is a stressful environment. For most of us, people can either be triggers for our stress or sources for relief for our stress. Unfortunately, because of the need to maintain a professional rapport with our workers, we have to be conscious on exposing our feelings too readily. That stop valve we put on our emotions at work can be a cause of stress in itself, and we have got to make sure the containment of stress does not lead perversely to the angry and hostile release of stress.

We need an outlet. The gym is an outlet for stress. Walking or jogging in the park is an outlet for stress. Punching a punching bag is a release of stress. Yelling in your car is a release of stress. But few offices come with their own gym. Offices are confined and don't have the real estate to afford you a really satisfying jog. Maybe you could somehow get a punching bag into your office, but start yelling at the top of your voice from your desk and you might just find yourself out of a job.

Promotional businesses are only too aware that stress is one of the leading causes of decreased work productivity and absenteeism around the work place. Promotional businesses know there is a market for stress relief in the work place, and not only that, but promotional businesses want your business name and logo to be associated with good health in the workplace. Because the primary health issue in the workplace is stress, promotional businesses are glad to offer products designed chip away at any building stress in the work place. They are promoted as 'toys' but these are not toys in the sense that they are childish or forgettable. The toys offered by promotional products are toys in the sense that they are used for no practical purpose, but they are used.

The 'relieve stress mentality' is about finding something to occupy yourself without getting to occupied about it. Promotional Anti Stress Toys provide employers and employees with something to do without something to stress about, and as frivolous as they may sound, they're very effective. The Promotional Anti Stress Ball is the most popular for squeezing away your anxieties. But there is also The Anti Stress Globe, The Anti Stress Cricket Ball, The Anti Stress Tennis Ball, The Anti Stress Golf Ball, varying sizes of anti-stress soccer balls and footballs, anti-stress cars, planes and trucks, anti-stress hard hats, hammers and bricks, an anti-stress boss caricature, anti-stress puzzles and anti-stress phone chairs.

Puzzles For Cures Releases Autism Ribbon Floor Puzzle

Though I am a teacher first and foremost because I adore the kids, I admit that a wonderful extra benefit is getting to know the children's families. I was blessed to meet the Ambrose family when I taught two of their three children several years ago. Having one child with special needs, Susan Ambrose has worked tirelessly to help raise funds and awareness for other causes.

Her company, Puzzles For Cures, is pleased to announce that they have received written approval from the Autism Society of America (ASA) to use its patented ribbon, created with colorful puzzle pieces, to manufacture a puzzle of the well-recognized symbol. The puzzle has already been well received as an effective fundraising tool by groups including schools, therapy facilities and united groups of parents.

Today, 1 out of every 150 children (4 out of 5 boys) born in our country has been diagnosed with Autism, which is the fastest growing developmental disability. These puzzles have many benefits. Fundraising dollars are being used for therapies and professional seminars; children are enjoying this educational toy; and Autism awareness is being raised throughout many communities.

Susan fully understands that no disability comes invited and that acceptance is key. She has been faced with many choices and challenges with her own child, which resulted in a strong desire to do something positive to help meet such choices and challenges.

The idea for this product came about one day as she was stopped at a traffic light and noticed an Autism awareness ribbon magnet on the back of the car in front of her. Her Dad, a woodworker and woodcrafter for over 40 years, made the awareness ribbon into an actual puzzle, creating the first prototype.

Puzzles For Cures presented the puzzle to the Autism Society of America and received its approval. Though the puzzles were initially made of wood, the group struggled to keep up with a growing demand. They realized they needed to take it to the next level.

The idea of a floor puzzle evolved, and Melissa & Doug, a well-known manufacturer of high-quality puzzles and toys for children, signed on. The ribbon-shaped floor puzzle is comprised of 36 pieces of "Easy-Clean" surface, which keeps the surface looking like new. It measures 18" x 36". All Melissa & Doug products are carefully crafted using "non-toxic coatings and meet or exceed all U.S. toy testing standards."

If you are interested in learning more about how the Puzzles For Cures Autism Puzzle can be an effective fundraising tool for your group, while also broadening awareness and providing children with an enjoyable fine motor activity, please contact Susan Ambrose at 856-220-0404.

Different Types of Baby Toys

There are so many kinds of baby toys to choose from. But the most important thing to consider when picking a baby toy is how much enjoyment it will give to the child. The physical appearance of the toy, its shape, color, and texture, determines how engaged and delighted the baby will be with his/her toy, which will allow the mother to prepare his/her food and complete other tasks, like household chores, etc. The toys should also introduce the baby to the basic concepts of shape and color. Baby toys are usually labeled according to age groups and this also helps the parent decide which toys are ideal for their child. As with any other purchase for the baby's needs, safety of the baby should always be the foremost consideration. Make sure that the material the toy is made of is not hazardous to the baby's health and that the toy itself is safe to play with, i.e., no sharp edges or not too small.

Aside from pure enjoyment, baby toys should be educational, too. Puzzles are very ideal educational toys because they promote mental coordination and problem solving skills of the baby. The baby also learns more about different images, like their shapes and colors. Puzzles have different difficulty levels depending on the baby age groups; but the kind of puzzle that's right for the baby is also dependent on the baby's own skills. There are babies who can solve puzzles with higher difficulty levels than their own. Other educational toys introduce the concepts of letters and numbers. Sometimes, these toys also include musical and lighting features to make them more stimulating for and interesting to the baby. In addition to piquing the baby's interest, the baby also gets familiarized with simple musical notes.

Even at a very young age, some toys are made specific for boys and girls. Generally, baby boys play with construction toys and baby girls with doll houses. But babies do not really understand the differences between the two and would be more than happy to play with either one or both. More often than not, babies play pretend games when they use their doll houses or construction toys. When baby boys play with their sister's or friend's doll houses, for example, they usually play a special role in the pretend game. Simple building blocks are one of the most popular construction toys that can also be used for babies' pretend games. Babies can enjoy endless hours building pyramids with their blocks, knocking them over, and then building them again.

Another favorite that has withstood the test of time is the rocking horse. These are very simple toys for baby but they never fail to captivate the baby's imagination and take him/her away as far as his/her imagination would go. Stuffed character toys, which are usually soft, fluffy, and cuddly versions of animals, like the teddy bear, are perfect companions for babies. They rouse feelings of intimacy and comfort and almost always become the child's friends for years.

Using Toys and Music in Training Sessions

As a trainer it is vital for you to be able to identify which areas of the course will be dry and tedious for the group, so that you can find a creative way to present the information, which will then lead to enhanced learning.

Try creating some fun and laughter. Some trainers dismiss games and activities as time wasters or childish. Yet this is the best way to deliver complex information: far better than having delegates fall asleep through boredom or, worse still, reduced to tears because they feel so overwhelmed by the complexity!

The average adult passive attention span is about 20 minutes. Taking a break every half hour would be disruptive. Instead, use a quick Brainteaser or Energiser, a short trivia quiz, or a course related puzzle.

The time before lunch can be a seriously low energy time for delegates. Avoid videos here as this encourages the delegates to snooze, particularly if the lights are lowered. Keep the energy moving with a very active group exercise after the mid-morning break - skill practice would be good here; put sweets and treats out on tables, plus small 'toys' for them to play with e.g. Lego pieces, koosh balls, puzzles, tactile children's toys.

Put more toys out for the afternoon break. Try yo-yos and Frisbee. Most people can't resist having a go, remembering what it felt like as a child - which helps to utilise right-brain learning during the session.

Use the toys to assist the actual content delivery. A fun quiz can be made more enjoyable by asking learners to use some of the larger toys as part of the quiz.

Music

I'm often asked about the role of music in the training environment. Does it help, is it just gimmick, is one type of music better than another? There has been a lot of research carried out into the effectiveness of music in learning - I do believe music has a role in the training room. It can be used for:

o Prior to Start - makes the training room more inviting for learners to enter, helping break down barriers and fears, as well as setting the tone for the workshop

o Break time - makes the training room 'friendlier' for those learners that stay in the room during that time

o Socialisation - bringing learners together

o State changer - helps manage learner states as specific music can enhance precise states for learning

o Priming - to prepare the learner for the next learning experience

o Movement - to get learners up and moving

o Emotions - to aid bringing emotions into learning

o Calming - to slow and calm the mind and body down

Beware the use of music when learners are trying to concentrate - it can interfere/compete with the attentional system

Also beware of using music for more than 10-15 minutes at any one time - learners will become habitualised to it and it will loose its impact.

Bonding with your children with educational puzzles

My kids would not let me go mystery even to them. A nearly 6 and 8 years, still love, but she just four pieces of the puzzle. I'm not a saver. I always look forward to a couple of things at any time the truck goes through our neighborhood to donate. However, every time I bring up the disposal of a puzzle, one or both objects.

On the contrary, my daughter tried to save everything from candy to toys packaging materials drya flower from our garden. Well, it's summer break, I tried again a few points, including a mystery that I hoped would agree, she was really too big to inherit. So his answer was, "Mom, you should, when I save a little girl, and you are a grandmother." My thoughts are growing rapidly switched from it to give some to find out how you can stay under 5 years old forever!

So, I came to do with it and decided to make my own battles. Irecognize that it's great that she's still enjoying it. Although, I did a little 'more difficult because these days, I am a mixture of song all are easier to screen for them. I feel like I've been more valuable than my money from these purchases. In addition, they take up little space, especially since we have a lot shelf 'puzzle. (By correctly, I think nice friends and help tidy up the playroom!) A and the games, I alsoEnjoy the opportunity, they remember the days when these puzzles have been a real challenge. How the brain would just worked so hard to fit back together again. I would think just turn, turn. It 'been so hard for me to "help" to stop. On the other hand, after it was so nice to see how they feel victorious.

The puzzles are much more than toys. I like the connection time while working on them with my children. Not to mentionall the benefits of development and educational value.

Toy Jumbo knob puzzles including, soil, awkward and puzzles provide the opportunity to hand-eye coordination exercise and promote visual-spatial perception. Then there is the social component. This encourages children to collaborate and work. Next, problem solving skills are used. Where once there was a picture, now there are several parts of an image. How can the image again? Last butcertainly not least, there is the aspect of manipulation of motor parts for them in their respective positions. I particularly value the puzzle that are developmentally appropriate for the child, or an entity that promotes higher-order thinking. These types of puzzles have more value in our home. often lead to discussions on many topics. Both businesses, the sounds of animals, weather, traffic, dressing,Counting, the alphabet, the human body, dinosaurs, and so on to give a riddle opportunity to intervene in a very casual wonder of the child.

Retro and classic toys

Today, a return to retro toys parents, children buy toys they remember from their childhood as gifts for them. Retro toys are often purchased because the parents of today remind us of their youth. Classic toys appeal to children and adults.

Retro and classic toys of the past decades may be a good alternative to modern toys. The simplest toys are often a good choice for your children, especially if you wanttechnology to promote creativity and movement, but they are not. toys are very important for children and youth development is often classic toys, the best to do. In addition, you get the added enjoyment of watching your children play with kids the same toys you enjoyed as.

Most of these retro toys encourage creative thinking and role playing. These activities are often deprived of battery operated toys of today. Classic Board Gamesallow bonding time away from the modern family TV or other distractions. Other games, like Mr. Potato Head and puzzles to encourage the creative development of your child in a way that many modern toys just do not.

Classic outdoor toys, including Hula Hoops, baseball bats, roller skates, bicycles and pedal cars can actually be more popular than ever. Instead of sitting inside watching TV or playing video games, children can run and play with these outoutdoor fun toys built to withstand years of children.

The all-steel pedal cars available today often use exactly the same body style made popular in 1960. With a few modifications for safety, today's children on the sidewalks in the same model pedal car may have had a child to ride. With the classic hot rod, pedal the car will never go out of style. This pedal toys are making a return because of their longevity, theirSimplicity, and of course the pure fun of a child walking around with their very own car.

Building toys, Lego blocks and erector sets and more stimulating the mind of a child as learning together all the different types of pieces to fit. In contrast to the modern toys, it's almost impossible to break the classic pieces of them.

Such toys need lot of exercise, both mentally and physically, and, of course, hours of entertainment. In contrast to modernplastic toys, models built them to withstand several generations of children. The same exact type of toys over the years 1950 and 1960 are now available again.

Toys from the 1950 and 1960 are much simpler than most of the toys of today, and have a way to transport us back to simpler times, even for the children of today do not realize the original versions of popular toys. These Toys are just more pleasant by the currentChildren as they were a generation or two ago. Over time, the nature of toys is more and more "toys will be added to the definition of" classic, but there is no doubt that these toys have already enjoyed the generations, remains popular with new generations of children.
