The Rationale Behind Childrens Educational Toys

Children have this natural character to learn. They have this ability to absorb new information and react to a stimulus almost like a sponge. Daily experiences, for instance, are excellent avenued in which children can learn. In this regard, games and play, and consequently the toys that they play with, are very helpful for this purpose. Children's educational toys therefore, are critical in every child's learning and development.

This almost insatiable hunger for learning in children, expressed in their natural propensity to play, should not be wasted on toyd without much relevance to their educational development.

While it is true, as some child experts would assert, that any play will serve its purpose in developing the child's brain and total development, it is equally unassailable that maximizing this natural learning process, is not a bad idea. In fact, it is now an accepted maxim that children's educational toys should be considered by any couple or individual contemplating of raising a kid.

Regular play will not only give the children their needed physical activities, as would the need of adults to have a daily chore or regular work, but also a venue to develop their personality, emotional capability, and even overall traits, that will help them in coping with the world that they live in as they grow. It is also during play that children develop their creativity, imagination, speech, reading, thinking, problem solving, and even their motor skills.

But children's educational toys come with a specific purpose, at least in terms of a child's age. Children up to the age of three will benefit greatly from creative play. Make-believe games are very common in this age-group, so it is best to provide appropriate educational toys. Costumes of their favorite cartoons heroes or heroines should be an opportunity to use as accompaniment for their educational toys.

Educational toys for this purpose can take the forms of teddy bears and other stuff toys, dolls, toys that reinforce arts and craft materials. Toys and other articles that somehow imitate the children's environment are also beneficial.

Children within the range of four to five years age are more cognitive and need toys that would help in the development of their thinking, problem solving skills, and decision making capability. Educational toys that would serve best this need are arts and crafts with considerable difficulty, like Lego and other construction toys. Puzzles also belong to this group of educational toys.

Children's Floor Puzzles - Great For Kids Hand-Eye Coordination

Hand-eye coordination begins during infancy through providing infants with objects and colorful toys that will encourage them to reach out and grasp them. By the age of 4-5 months infants can bring their hands into their field of vision, and during toddlerhood further progress in hand-eye coordination comes with the ability to see and grasp objects accurately. They develop the "pincer grasp" during this time.

By three to four years of age children learn to handle eating utensils and button small buttons. By five years of age the child's hand-eye coordination is beginning to advance as he approaches, grasps and releases objects with precision and accuracy.

By six years of age the child's visual orientation changes as they shift their gaze more frequently and follow the progress of objects rather than staring at the object. By the time they reach school age through middle childhood they make great advances in speed, timing and coordination of hand-eye coordination.

Between the ages of three and six it is important to provide as many opportunities for children to develop their hand-eye coordination. But, what to do when it rains, snows or gets dark too early? Because visual feedback is vital for fast and accurate hand movements it is important to allow children to continue to develop their hand-eye coordination.

One great solution is a giant floor puzzle. These puzzles are very colorful, made of large enough pieces to not harm the child if they put them in their mouth, and provide an opportunity to develop hand-eye coordination while learning shapes and patterns.

Over the years I have cared for many children, and I have observed their behavior with floor puzzles. I take the diagram of the completed puzzle and seal it in plastic so they can refer to it without destroying it. Children will spend a lot of time learning the puzzle, and once they do they always want an adult to watch them and spend time with them putting the puzzle together. When they are older they will only put it together 2 or 3 times before losing interest, but they always go back to it when bored indoors.

Safe and educational, giant floor puzzles make a great indoor activity for when the weather keeps them indoors.

The Joy of Giving Classic Children's Gifts

Even though the trend in children's gifts is whatever is popular and new, classic children's gifts remain a big hit and many parents and grand parents still find joy in giving simple classic gifts to their children and grandchildren that they enjoyed as kids. There are many simple classic children's toys that have been delighting kids for generations, such as wagons, trains, ride on toys, wooden building blocks, tricycles, and a myriad of wooden toys. These classic toys are usually high in quality and will last many years, even with rough play. This is one of the reasons classic toys appeal as gifts as well as their simplicity and nostalgic value.

Many classic, antique, and heirloom quality children's toys are made of wood or metal as they are materials that will last for many years. These materials are usually more expensive than their plastic counterparts, but these materials will last much longer than modern plastic toys and many people consider them works of art and do not mind displaying them in their home. Investing in high quality wooden or metal toys makes sense as they will still be in good shape for many generations of children.

Some of the most popular types of classic toys are wagons and ride on toys. These toys are made of wood or metal and if they are not originals, resemble the designs of many years ago. The classic "red wagon" has been a hit for generations and even modern children with all their modern toys still delight in hauling around, or being pulled in, a red wagon. Other classic ride on toys such as rocking horses, cars, airplanes, and trucks, are also favorites of children and parents alike. Almost every adult remembers a favorite ride on toy from their childhood, and children today still enjoy these types of toys. A classic wooden ride on toy will last for many years are much more durable and beautiful than modern plastic ones.

Trains have been delighting children for many years, and classic wooden train sets have allowed children to conduct train lines for years. Wooden train sets give children the chance to be creative and manage their own little world. Wooden train sets are very durable and will last for years with the right care. Many wooden train sets come with wooden accessories such as passengers, trees, track, bridges, and more for endless play opportunities.

Other classic toy options include blocks, cars, puzzles, pull along toys, and more. These classic toys made of wood or metal are extremely durable and give both children and adults great joy. It is fun to give gifts that once delighted us to a new generation. It is possible to find classic toys that are manufactured today, and they are usually of the same high quality as the classic toys of other generations. Because classic toys are so durable, it is easy to find vintage toys that are still in great shape. The only thing you have to be careful of when buying vintage or antique toys as gifts s that they do not contain lead paint. It is easy to refinish wooden toys, however, either to remove lead paint or to spruce them up.

Kids Birthday Party Themes - Activities and Ideas For a Children's Birthday

There are so many kids birthday party themes to choose from it can seem overwhelming at times. The first step to successfully planning a party is to narrow down your choices and pick a theme.

Here's a fun, unique theme idea to give you some inspiration. It's based on the popular TV show, Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. This kids birthday party idea is suitable for children from 5 to 8 years old.

Throw a party for your kids based around the show "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego". It's a fun and simple home party and you won't have to shuttle the children around city or compete for space at another venue like Chucky Cheese.

Activity and Game Ideas:
The adults play the different characters in the show. ex: the chief, and the different villains, and Carmen San Diego herself. This serves two purposes, not only does it cut out the cost of hiring actors but it gives the children the idea that they really are transported into the stories.

It makes the kids feel like they're not surrounded by their parents, in turn it give you a way of creating a festive atmosphere while always keeping an eye on the children.

Different areas of the house and backyard are set up as different areas around the world, for example Paris, China, Spain. There are clues, puzzles and games set up at the different stations that the children have to figure out.

After the children figure out the puzzles they receive another clue to get them to the next station and also a little prize. in the end all the clues lead the children to figure out where Carmen San Diego is and how she committed the "crime".

A fun way to end the party is to have the final clue lead to the dining room where the cake and presents are waiting for the children.

The party is low on cost and a lot of fun for the children and it allows you to create a custom party for your children in the comfort of your own home. For the party all you would need to do is familiarize yourself with the series and then copy the costumes and plot line. You don't even need to go out and buy costumes you probably have everything you need already hanging in your closet!

Other than that you might need to go to a party supply store and grab streamers and other things to mimic the different locations but that's about it! It's one of the great kids birthday party themes for budget minded parents! Give it a whirl at your next birthday.

Playmobil Toys, Lego's and Transformers - The Cyclical Cycle of Children's Toys

Here's how it goes: first it becomes popular, then it becomes unpopular, then it becomes kitsch, then, sometime after that, it becomes popular again. Hence goes the pop culture cycle. Chances are by the time you grow up, all those toys that you abandoned when you became "too grown up" to play with, become important to you again. They become reminders of your youth and you begin to yearn for them. Of course, you're not the only ones. Big business knows this. Because of this you should ready to pay a premium for your beloved Playmobil toys or My Little Pony's because you're not the only one looking for them.

I recently went to the Downtown Disney District in Anaheim, CA to meet some friends for dinner. As I was walking I noticed that there was a rather large Lego Chain store which sold nothing but Lego sets and products. I didn't have to think twice, I made a bee-line for the store. Now, I know Lego's are thought of as a little boy thing, but I'll make no qualms about the fact that when I was a kid I loved Lego's. Sure, I enjoyed Barbie's, My Little Pony's, etc., but for me there was nothing more fun then putting together a Lego airport, police building or pirate ship. As I walked into the store and began to look around, two things immediately popped into my head. First: if you can dream it, there is a Lego set for it now. Forget airports, you can literally build the Taj Mahal now out of Lego's. Second, and most relevant, Lego's have gotten expensive. I'm sure you can still get a small set at Wal- Mart for something resembling a reasonable price, but wow, if you want to build an airplane or an building or a pirate ship prepare to open your wallet. A set can cost up to $70 now. Even the cheaper sets cost $30. Needless to say I passed on purchasing a set, even if I felt a child like need to.

It didn't hit me until I got home why these Lego sets cost so much. These sets were not for children, but instead, for adults who grew up on Lego's and again want to experience the thrill of constructing a building out of these tiny blocks. I recently help put together a small set a cousin brought over, and trust me; it's still as fun to do as I remember it.

If anything, this experience at the Lego shop reminded me of the "kitsch" cycle. Toy sellers now understand that parents are as willing to purchase something that reminds them of their youth as they are to purchase these new products for their children, same goes for Playmobil Toys too. Look at the Transformer franchise. Most of the people who saw the film hadn't played with a transformer for 15 years, but went in droves to the movie because of cherished childhood memories (the movies were terrible by the way, which makes the success of the second one even more "memories" based).

Next time you're at Target look around and look at how much of the DVD's or home supplies marketed to adults are simply repackaged and "hip looking" products from your childhood. I think you might be surprised at what you find. Chances are while you've "grown up" your tastes have pretty much stayed the same.
